The CREIDD stands for ‘Interdisciplinary research on transition towards sustainable socio-technical systems”.

The creation of the CREIDD happened at the beginning of the 2000s, around the issue of sustainable development understanding and its potential operational methods. Members of the team developed specific skills on the deployment of methods on global sustainability engineering and management. Those methods are coupling territorial and life product management & ecodesign approaches. Many productions have been carried on industrial ecology, industrial and territorial ecology, energy and material flow analysis, design for sustainability and life cycle analysis.

In 2017, the CREIDD changed its name.

Indeed, at its creation, its name was “Centre of Research and Interdisciplinary studies on Global Sustainability”. This change of name means that the centre of interest is not anymore on sustainable development but on phenomenon of transitions towards sustainability. The team engaged itself in a new scientific posture of strong sustainability, bringing hypothesis that are not much studied.

In order to do that, the team evolve from an heuristic research demarche, combining grass-roots observations and research-action experiments, to a more inclusive approach of participative sciences. This way, the team wishes to develop better knowledge of projects coping with local needs which are environmentally, financially and socially constraint. Throw those constraints, new production and social models can emerge. The team is established into a territorial vision which goes from the study of the deployment of circular economy to the emergence of neo-industrialisation. The team goal is then to replace the engineer and the technology in front of local needs.
